Intent of Service
ADVANTAGE Health provides PAB services to accomplish the following:
- Independence with eating, bathing, dressing, personal hygiene.
- Building natural supports.
- Being self-sufficient (taking care of one’s self and one’s needs to live in own home).
- Exploring opportunities to identify and expand personal interests.
- Building skills in self-advocacy; and
- Supporting income-producing endeavors (e.g., micro-enterprise).
Service Definition
- PAB is a range of assistance or training to enable Participants to accomplish tasks that they would normally do for themselves if they did not have a disability. Such assistance shall include active supervision (readiness to intervene as necessary) and interaction with Participants. This may take the form of hands-on assistance (performing a task for the person) or training or multi-step instructional cuing as a part of a plan to prompt the Participant to perform a task. Personal care services may be provided on an episodic or on a continuing basis. Health related services that are provided might include skilled or nursing care to the extent permitted by State law. Such assistance may include assistance or training in the performance of ADLs (bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, maintaining contingence) and IADLs (more complex life activities, e.g., personal hygiene, light housework, laundry, meal preparation, transportation, grocery shopping, using the telephone, medication and money management);
- PAB Services may include personal assistance or training to meet outcome / goals of increasing independence, developing natural supports, learning, developing relationships, contributing through employment / volunteering / participation and their associated costs.
- Services may be provided in or outside the Participant’s home; and
- Recommendations of specialized therapies could be incorporated within this service.

The goal of Respite services is to support family relationships to sustain Participants living in the family home.
